Shark Duo Clean – What Is It And How Does It Work?

Shark Duo Clean

Shark Duo Clean Technology makes hoovering and vacuuming your home easy, straightforward and simple because the floorhead includes both a soft roller and a brush so no matter the floor surface it cleans effectively regardless of whether you have hard floor, carpet or both.

With Shark vacuum cleaners you no longer need to think about what kind of hoover is best suited to the type of flooring you have in your home.

Some brands of vacuum cleaner are better on hard flooring and others do better on carpet but Shark has developed a system that delivers superior cleaning performance regardless of the surface that needs to be cleaned.

There has been a massive shift towards laminate flooring and real wood hard floors in recent years and most vacuum cleaner manufacturers haven’t caught up and still make traditional hoovers that have a brush on the floor head that spins around at high speed.

Brands like Dyson, for example, have excellent hoovers that come with a motorised brush head but if you want something that is effective on hard floors then you need to buy one of their top of the range models that comes with an attachment that is suitable for hard floors.

If you want to get the absolute best cleaning performance from a Dyson then you need to swap floorheads when you change surfaces from carpet to hard floor or rugs to hard floor and that can be a bit annoying.

If you are thinking about buying a vacuum cleaner from one of the premium brands but are unsure as to how to choose between them then this article will help:

Dyson or Shark?

The bottom line is that for hard floor surfaces, whether it be laminate or Amtico or Karndean or real wood, you need to have a vacuum cleaner with a soft roller to get the best possible cleaning performance.

If you have carpets then a brush that digs right down into the carpet fibres is going to do a better job than a soft roller so if you only have one type of flooring throughout your home then you may wish to choose one or the other.

If you have no carpets or rugs whatsoever then a vacuum cleaner with a soft roller is all you really need but then you don’t have a back up if you end up getting an oriental rug or if you get some carpet fitted at some point.

If you only have carpet then a traditional hoover should be fine but it won’t work great in the kitchen or anywhere at all that has any other floor surface other than carpet.

Shark have completely taken all of those issues out of the equation with their Duo Clean technology.

What Exactly Is Shark Duo Clean?

It seems obvious once you take a look but no one else has really thought it through until Shark decided to put both a brush AND a soft roller into all of their vacuum cleaner heads.

Traditional hoovers tend to struggle with larger particles of dirt because they can’t make their way under the lip of the floorhead but the soft roller on all Shark Duo Clean vacuum cleaners sits at the front of the floor head and just rolls straight over even the largest of dirt particles and sucks them straight into the waste container.

It’s also extremely effective at edge cleaning and grabs everything all the way up to and including the edge so if you normally have to use an attachment to get properly into the skirting boards then you won’t have to worry about that with a Shark Duo clean hoover.

Both the soft roller and the motorised brush move at the same time so the soft roller brilliantly captures dust and dirt that sits on the surface of the floor and then the brush digs deep below the surface to grab anything the soft roller didn’t pick up.

Looking through the entire range of Shark vacuum cleaners, almost all of them have Duo Clean and it’s so good that it looks like they are including it in all of their vacuum cleaners now but some of the older models didn’t have it incorporated into the floor head so just keep an eye out.

Here is a short video that shows it in action:

Which Shark Duo Clean Is The Best?

Shark offers a large number of different types of vacuum cleaner that have Duo Clean technology because they cater to different home sizes, different budgets and different home types.

For example, if you have a very large home with pets then a cordless version with powered lift away and a spare battery will give you the freedom to clean large areas without worrying about getting caught up in cables or the battery running out.

On the other hand, if the price is important and perhaps you live in a flat or a smaller home then perhaps you may be more suited to a corded vacuum cleaner with Duo Clean.

Shark’s corded range performs exactly the same as the cordless but are cheaper because batteries for vacuum cleaners are expensive so if you plug it into the mains then you don’t need a battery.

You also never need to be concerned with the battery running out and if you don’t have that many rooms to clean then you won’t need to change the plug socket much making having to deal with a cord not that much hassle at all.

Is Shark Duo Clean safe on hard floors?

Yes, On hard flooring the soft roller does all the work and will deal with all the dust and dirt that sits on the surface of your floor.

The brush roller will not scratch or damage the flooring and is more for dealing with dirt below the surface of carpets or rugs

Shark Duo Clean corded or cordless?

All of Sharks Duo Clean hoovers are good and the best one is the one that is most suited to your individual needs. For larger homes consider cordless and for smaller homes try one of the corded ones to save money.

How Good Is the Shark Duo Clean?

Compared to the floor heads on other vacuum cleaners, the Duo Clean is excellent because the soft roller picks up everything that sits on top of the floor and then the brush roller grabs anything that sits underneath.

Most vacuum cleaners have one or the other but with Shark Duo Clean you get the best of both worlds.

In addition to the benefits of having two brush heads built into one with the Duo Clean, many now also come with anti-hair wrap technology that completely eliminates hair becoming tangled in the brush roller.
