What Is The Best Cordless Vacuum Cleaner?

Is it a vacuum cleaner? Is it a hoover? Whatever you call the device that cleans your home we will help you hoover up the best deals available in the market today.

We have summarised the best 11 below with their key features and benefits and each has a link to the full review of that particular hoover if you want to dig a little further.

The best cordless vacuum cleaner depends on what your own specific needs are. Not everyone will need to spend the price of a holiday on an all singing, all dancing Dyson that would suck your carpet up into the waste container if it wasn’t stuck to the floorboards.

The way we have accessed “the best” is to think about things a little bit differently.

If you have a big family with kids and multiple cats and dogs and a big house that gets rampaged through day in day out then you will most certainly be needing a Dyson or a Shark. Both of these brands have the most powerful suction by a mile compared to everyone else but it comes at a price – a big price

But what if you live in a flat and you don’t have children that make a mess?

What if you live on your own and you have no pets and you keep your home tidy most of the time?

What if your home is not dirty at all most of the time and you just need something that works and will keep the place clean?

What if you just detest the thought of spending a fortune on a product that will suck up the dust in your home or you simply cannot afford it?

If any of the above questions apply to you then you would be wasting your money on a Dyson because the truth is that lots of homes simply do not need one.

It’s like buying a top of the range Apple laptop to surf the web. You could do that perfectly well with a laptop that costs £300 so why spend £3000? Exactly the same principle applies to vacuum cleaners.

It is entirely possible to keep your house spotlessly clean with a hoover that costs a fraction of the price of one of the premium branded mega suction cleaners.

For that reason we have split our top 10 recommendations to take into people whose homes simply do not need the very highly priced super suction cleaners.

To that end you will see 2 of the top 10 well below £100 with 4 of the top 9 normally available for under £200.

Let’s get straight into it.

Shark IZ400UK / IZ400UKT & IZ420UKT Cordless Vacuum Cleaner

Shark has become the number 1 vacuum cleaner brand in the UK and its because, unlike Dyson, they cater for every different type of customer need regardless of the size of your home or lifestyle.

This cordless model in the “Stratos” range is the most striking example yet of why Shark have many thousands of positive reviews over many years, they never stop trying to make things better.

They have introduced a whole bunch of additional features in addition to the usual already excellent specification you normally get such as “Clean sense IQ ” that senses when you are on hard floor or carpet so you don’t have to change any settings when you switch from one surface to the other. Other new features include anti-hair wrap plus and anti-odour technology.

Shark IZ300 & IZ320 Cordless Vacuum Cleaner

If you want exceptional cleaning performance but you don’t want to pay the sky high prices that Dyon are asking then a Shark hoover is well worth considering. Shark have now overtaken Dyon as the best selling brand of hoovers in the UK because put simply they have some amazing features that make light work of getting a job done that no one really likes doing.

A detailed review of all the features and benefits can be found in the link below but to summarise, this range comes with anti hair wrap which means that you’ll never have to worry about hair becoming wrapped around the roller again and having to pull it out with your fingers or cut it out with scissors.

You get an LCD display, it transforms into a powerful handheld with one click, it’s lightweight and easy to move around at just 4.6kg, it comes with an optional motorised pet tool for easy pickup of dog and cat hair and you get a duo clean floorhead for seamless cleaning across both hard flooring and carpet.

Overall, an exceptional vacuum cleaner.

Budget Cordless Vacuum Cleaner

This may be the best value for money cordless vacuum cleaner available. It’s not the cheapest but it is a very long way off being the most expensive. You’d have to buy 4 or 5 of these before you were shelling out for the price of a Dyson. And let’s face it, how many homes need the power of a Dyson to keep their home clean?.

By far the most expensive part of any cordless vacuum cleaner is the battery and the technology that drives the suction power. So if your home is not filthy dirty and you don’t need ultimate suction power then a cleaner like this will be ideal for you.

What’s important is to choose a cleaner with the right level of suction for your requirements and this has very good suction on its turbo mode. There are two levels of power, standard and turbo. On standard mode you will get around 35-40 mins of usage but we would recommend using it on the turbo power setting all of the time to ensure a high quality clean at a budget price. The cleaning time will be reduced to 20 minutes on the high suction mode as the juice from the battery will get depleted quicker but it’s worth it to get a really good clean without forking out a fortune.

If you have deep pile carpets that are always getting dirty and multiple pets then you should consider a vacuum with the highest level of suction power which are reviewed lower down this list but for a smaller home, flat or apartment that needs a standard clean on a regular basis this cleaner is more than capable of doing the job.

You can pay more for a handheld cleaner than the price of this entire stick cleaner and it easily converts into a handheld with just a few button clicks.

Instead of the multitude of accessories that some cleaners come with that can bump up the price, this comes with just the three most important ones – crevice for hard to reach areas like the back of the sofa, dusting tool for higher surface areas like worktops and another for stairs.

This is superb value for money.

Vax Blade 4 Cordless Vacuum Cleaner

If you have a medium to large sized home maybe with kids and pets and you need a real workhorse but you don’t want to pay the kind of money that the top brands like Shark or Dyson charge then this is a great alternative that arguably delivers the same level of cleaning performance as the best out there but it costs a lot less.

There are two power levels, standard and boost which are controlled with your thumb on the handle of the vacuum cleaner. Boost mode will deliver super strong suction that matches that of the top brands, its that good.

On full power you would normally get about 10 minutes out of a Dyson but a really good feature on the Blade 4 is the motorised brush head that you can switch on and off as required and that dramatically improve battery life allowing you to clean the whole house on boost mode.

You don’t need a spinning brush on the kitchen floor or any hard floor surfaces so when you clean those surfaces turn it off and just turn it on again for carpets and you’ll get about 30 minutes on full power on a single charge, very clever technology.

It’s very light as well at just 3kg so is ideal for anyone that doesn’t want to be lugging around a heavy hoover around the house.

You can also get it with an optional pet tool so if you have lots of dog hair then that’s a good add on to consider.

Vax Evolve Cordless Upright Vacuum Cleaner

This is a great low-cost offering from Vax that is great for anyone that is not really into technology. There are no digital displays, just buttons to turn it on and off and switch between cleaning modes for carpet or hard flooring.

Perfect for flats or bungalows with excellent suction for a vacuum cleaner at this price point.

Tineco Pure One S12 Cordless Vacuum Cleaner

This is a premium priced cordless vacuum cleaner but just because it is expensive doesn’t mean that you don’t get great value for money. This hoover will clean your home as well as the latest Dyson but it costs less and has more.

It has more accessories and more batteries. There are over 10 different accessory attachments that cover every single possible situation that you may encounter in your home so that you’ll never be left thinking “how do i get in there?” and its brilliant for the car as well when converted into handheld mode.

With most cordless vacuum’s you need to manage battery life to make sure you don’t run out of charge but not with this one, you’ll never run out of battery with the Tineco S12.

It comes with 2 batteries that can run for up to 50 minutes each and ith each battery the vacuum itself manages the battery life and adjusts the suction automatically according to the amount of dirt on the surface you are cleaning across all surfaces, carpet or hard floor.

You also get a digital display on the top of the handle to show you exactly what percentage you have left. If you love to clean for hours in one go and you do run out of one battery, just unclip it and insert the other one in seconds.

This is a genuine contender to Dyson.

Morphy Richards 732007 Supervac Cordless Vacuum Cleaner

Another at the budget end of the market, our next recommendation comes from a well known brand – Morphy Richards. More well known for their kettles and toasters than their hoovers they are a trusted well known brand so if you are reticent about going for a brand you have never heard of then this may fit the bill.

This works great on hard floors and short pile carpet and it will give you around 20 minutes of cleaning time on the high power mode which is the recommended mode to get the suction you will need for removal of dust and dirt from around your home. This will work really well in smaller homes that are mostly kept tidy and clean anyway or brilliantly as a second cleaner to use all the time leaving the main cleaner for a less regular deep clean.

You get lights on the cleaning head so you can see the accumulation of dust in darker, hard to get to areas like under the sofa which is unusual for a cleaner at a price as low as this.

It also folds in half for easy storage and clicks neatly into a base for charging without the need to fiddle around plugging it in to charge.

Gtech AirRam MK2 Cordless Vacuum Cleaner

Stepping up in price and definitely stepping up in performance, the GTech AirRam bridges the gap between the budget cleaners that serve a purpose for smaller households and the ultra high performance mega suction cleaners that are produced by Dyson and Shark.

This costs a lot less than the top-end premium products but you can easily go for this hoover for a large family home that needs regular deep cleaning. It weighs in at just 3.2kg so is easily manoeuvred by anyone and up and down the stairs is a breeze. It kind of comes in the style of an old school upright with the on/off button on the head which is operated by your foot which we like.

This is ideal if you just want something that turns on and off with no bells and whistles but does a great job of cleaning then this is well worth considering. No LCD screens, no accessories, just good old fashioned hoovering up the rubbish.

Suction is really good and much better than any other mid-range vacuums but not quite at the level of the premium brands but certainly more than good enough to tackle busy households with pets. Edge cleaning is excellent as well so no need to back over areas like skirting boards. One power mode for the suction so no need to mess around with different amounts of suction to maximise the battery life which will give you 40 minutes – plenty to clean larger homes with no risk of it dying on you.

This cleaner has been around for a few years and in that time has sold many thousands of units with the vast majority of customers extremely happy with its performance.

Bosch BCS122GB Unlimited Cordless Vacuum Cleaner

Now we move into the top end of the market where you are expecting the very best because you are paying for it. This Bosch cleaner has been labelled “Unlimited” because for the first time you can vacuum all day if you wish with this cleaner because it comes with 2 batteries.

Most batteries take 3-4 hours to fully charge but this one takes only 60 minutes to get to a full charge so with each battery lasting 60 minutes by the time one dies the other one will be fully charged and you can keep going, and going, and going…… all day if you want! So if battery life is a problem for you then this Bosch eliminates that altogether.

It’s very light and comes with some great accessories including a “bendy” crevice stool making it almost impossible for any dirt to hide away as it will bend and reach into almost any spot you need to get to. You also don’t need to keep your finger on the trigger during use as it has an on/off button with just the turbo mode requiring you to keep your thumb depressed on the button for maximum power.

This is cheaper than a top of the range Dyson and it is definitely worth considering whether you need to spend the extra couple of hundred extra as this does a really really good job and has incredible suction to rival Dyson.

Shark ICZ160 & ICZ300 Cordless Vacuum Cleaner

Shark are the relative newcomers on the block when it comes to vacuum cleaners compared to the other brands that have been around for decades but boy have they made an impact and they certainly know what they are doing when it comes to a top quality cordless cleaner.

This gets a 10/10 because when you combine quality with value it doesn’t really get any better. The suction power is not quite as strong as the Dyson V12 but it is still fantastic and it moves seamlessly from hard floor to carpet literally picking everything that crosses its path. In our opinion, you don’t need to pay extra for even more suction because this will not leave anything behind so why pay for more if it’s not required?

Use it as a standard stick vacuum cleaner or easily lift off the central unit with the waster container attached for ultra-easy stair cleaning. Shark are so sure of the longevity of this product that they provide a 5-year warranty for extra peace of mind.

You will also never have to concern yourself with cutting away the hair that gets wrapped around the brush roller because this cleaner comes with anti-hair wrap and it’s not a gimmick, it really does work.

A full suite of accessories makes sure you will never be without the right tool to vacuum anything and everything in your home. The battery is easily removable and can be charged either in the vacuum or in a separate charging unit which is supplied if you don’t have a powerpoint wherever you keep the cleaner.

This is a top of the range hoover that does not come with a top of the range price.

Shark IZ201 & IZ251 Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner

Another excellent cordless option from Shark that now incorporates their anti-hair wrap technology. If you have pets or people in your home that leave hair lying around you can rest assured that it won’t end up wrapped around the brush ever again.

This model comes with a bending stick that Shark call “flexology” that allows you to get right under very low cupboards and sofas that wouldn’t be possible with other vacuum cleaners and you don’t even have to bend down to do it either.

The main cleaning head comes with a soft roller and a hard brush so it switches effortlessly between hard and carpeted floors and it also comes with all the accessories you’ll ever need whether at floor level or above.

The suction power s second to none and you get the option of a single battery that will give you about 30 minutes of cleaning time or a twin battery that will ensure you can hoover till your heart’s content without ever having to worry about running out of battery.

Dyson V10 Cordless Vacuum Cleaner

Despite the introduction of the V12,  the V10 is better and the reason it is better is that you have to combine quality with value when making an overall evaluation.

You may not get a digital LCD screen that shows you the battery life you have left down to the nearest 1% but the V10 does everything that the V12 does except it costs less which is why we give it a 10/10.

Sure the V12 has 20% more suction power but we don’t think that you need the extra. The V10 does an outstanding job of picking up everything bar none and the 60 minutes of battery life in normal mode with 25 minutes on medium is more than enough for most homes. If you use a bit of normal and a bit of medium you will easily get 40 minutes out of it.

There was a big improvement from the V8 to the V10 but the V12 does not have enough “more” things to make it stand out and justify the extra hundreds of pounds.

Vytronix Cordless Vacuum Cleaner

This is the cheapest of our top 9 so if you are looking for the best ultra-budget cordless then you will be hard pushed to find anything better. A top of the range Dyson will cost you 10 times more so it is important to understand what you are buying into when you get this vacuum cleaner.

This will work really well for several different situations. If you are looking to do a quick whizz around every couple of days to keep your home clean but you don’t want to go to the hassle of whipping out your main cleaner this will work brilliantly as a second cleaner for no-hassle ultra easy use.

At 2.3kg you will hardly even know it is in your hand it is so light yet it doesn’t feel flimsy. You will get 20 minutes of suction on the high power mode and to be honest you should not bother with the standard suction mode as it not up to much but the max power mode is good and will pick up all dust and debris. If you have a large home with pets then you can do a deep clean weekly with your main vacuum and use this for quick jobs.

But if you have a small home or flat with no pets that is mostly clean there is no reason why you can’t use this as your main cleaner. Two accessories ( crevice and dusting ) keeps the price down even more and it comes with a decent sized waste container (0.5 litre) and it also converts into a handled as well.

Really good value for money.

Do cordless vacuum cleaners work as well as corded?

Before 2018 they did not but technology has developed quickly and when Dyson released the V10 in March 2018 we could finally say that certain cordless vacuum cleaners perform at the same level as corded.

This has been proven by the announcement that Dyson is no longer going to be making any corded cleaners ever again.

If you want the convenience of a cordless but you also want the power of a corded you will have to pay handsomely for it though as only the top-end brands like Dyson and Shark are currently producing hoovers that have the power of corded vacuums.

The good news is that not all homes need that kind of suction power to keep their homes clean so you may not even need to buy an expensive branded model and be able to clean your home perfectly well with one of our lower priced cordless cleaners recommended above.

Which cordless vacuum has the best suction?

That would be the Dyson V12. It has better and more powerful suction than any other cordless vacuum on the market.

The V12 is a brilliant cleaner but it is not our highest rated because it costs too much money. The V10 also does an outstanding cleaning job but it’s much cheaper than the V12.

It doesn’t have as much power but it still has WAY more power than most homes will ever need making it the best value for money cleaner for super busy homes with pets.

Is a Dyson vacuum cleaner worth the money?

Only if your home gets dirty a lot and you have deep pile carpets and pets and you want to clean every last particle of dust and dirt out of the atmosphere every time you clean.

A lot of smaller homes from a size perspective or smaller from a number of people perspective don’t really need one because the suction power is what costs the money with Dyson and you can definitely keep you home clean with less suction and spend less money with one of our other recommendations listed above that cost a lot less than a Dyson.

Is Dyson better than Shark?

It’s a really, really close call and in the end, it will come down to personal preference. If you choose to buy either a Shark or a Dyson from the recommended list above you will not be disappointed.

They both perform really, really well across the criteria that we use to measure how good a cordless hoover is.

Battery life, suction power, accessories and ease of use are all areas that both brands score very highly on and there is no right or wrong answer when it comes to which is best – they are both excellent.

Which Dyson cordless vacuum is best?

The V12 is the best from a performance point of view but we believe that the V10 is the best overall.

When evaluating “the best” we take price into very careful consideration before making our minds up.

The V12 may have 20% more suction power than the V10 but the V10 itself has brilliant suction power that will be more than fine for the vast majority of homes.

If you absolutely have to have the best and price is not an issue then, by all means, go for the V12 but if you want the best value for money then go for the v10.
